Asheville, NC, Downtown Gallery Association Kicks Off Annual Art Walk Series
The 2004 City Center Art Walks will kickoff on Apr. 2, 2004 with the first of four Art Walks this season. One of America's top arts destinations, Asheville, NC, is home to a large number of art galleries and arts organizations. Formed by professional art dealers and gallery owners, the Asheville Downtown Gallery Association was created to promote these fine downtown art concerns. Dedicated to exhibiting the finest visual art from the region, nation, and the world, the galleries offer diverse and dazzling array of work in a wide range of media. ADGA members strive to make art accessible to all - from the serious art collector to the casual art appreciator.
One of the major projects of the ADGA is the Gallery Guide and Annual Asheville City Center Art Walks. Unique in their scope and longevity, the Art Walks are held from 5-8pm, on the first Friday of the months of Apr., June, Aug., and Oct. This season's events will feature 26 participating galleries, many of whom will present special exhibits with artist receptions - informal come-and-go "open houses"- throughout the downtown area. Casual and eclectic, it's a great time to visit the galleries and see many diverse collections of art in Asheville. ADGA is adding a unique flair to the evening this year by having live music and street performers along the streets of the downtown area to help direct people to participating galleries.
"This year's Art Walks are going to be fantastic" Downtown Gallery Association member Ken Rudolph said. "We're pairing with other events in the downtown area so people can come downtown and really make an evening of it." The idea is to not only increase the visibility of the galleries downtown, but also to let people know they can come downtown and have a fun evening at several arts related locations and events".
On the same evening of the first event on Apr. 2, Art Walkers can also enjoy Postcards from the Ledge, the City of Asheville's annual art event, held at Pack Square.
