Juried Fine Art and Craft Show to be held at Historic Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, SC
The Art Market at Historic Honey Horn, a juried fine art and craft show, is set for Apr. 24-25, 2004 on Hilton Head Island, SC. The show is part of BRAVO - Celebrate the Arts! Festival held during the month of May each year. BRAVO is a month-long celebration of the area's vibrant arts community and diverse cultural heritage in partnership with the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
The Coastal Discovery Museum has juried in 63 artists that work in clay, wood, fibers, metals, glass, jewelry, watercolors, oil, mixed media and photography. All artists will have their items on display and available for purchase. The group of artists represents 14 states, coming from as far away as Illinois, New York and Wisconsin. Artists submitted their entries through slides and were juried into the show in Jan. by two local jurors.
These artists are competing for $5,000 in awards. This year's judge is Michael Haga the Program Coordinator for the School of the Arts at The College of Charleston. In addition to his role as an administrator and adjunct professor at the College, Haga has participated as board member and advisor to several arts organizations across the state such as the South Carolina Artisans Center in Walterboro, SC, and the South Carolina Arts Alliance in Rock Hill, SC. Haga has been involved in judging and jurying fine arts and crafts shows in the past including the Lowcountry Artisans show in Bluffton, the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival and the Piccolo Spoleto Craft Exhibition.
On the evening of Apr. 24, 2004, there will be a "Let's Celebrate Bravo! Party" from 6-7:30pm at historic Honey Horn under trees that are over 100 years old. Admission to the party is $20 and you will have a chance to mingle with artists, enjoy food and beverages, and learn of other BRAVO events. Featured artists will be the Jazz Ensemble from North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Music. These talented students will perform throughout the evening. Ronald Rudkin, the Music Director, plays second/assistant with the Winston-Salem Symphony and was awarded the prestigious Jazz Composers Fellowship from the North Carolina Arts Council. Their stop on Hilton Head Island is part of their spring tour. Reservations are required for the party.
