Opportunity House in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Wendy Brown
The Art League of Henderson County is presenting an exhibition of works by guest artist, Wendy L. Brown, at Opportunity House in Hendersonville, NC, from Apr. 4 - 28, 2004.
Brown was born in Kingsport, TN. She began
painting in oils at the age of twelve. She majored in Fine Arts
at East Tennessee State University, and continued her studies
at the Fine Arts Guild of Winston-Salem, in Winston-Salem, NC.
While in Winston-Salem, Brown entered a number of competitions,
among them the Workman Bank Competition, where she was awarded
Third Prize in oils, and the Appalachian Competition, where her
painting of Hydrangeas took Best of Show. After moving with her
family to Tampa, FL, she was represented by the JET Gallery of
Tampa, an affiliate of The Center Art Galleries of the South Pacific.
She did a number of commissions through this gallery, which included
architect's renderings and portraits.
Brown has been living in Hendersonville since 1986. She has been
an instructor of both oils and watercolors for Blue Ridge Community
College. Brown has given workshops and demonstrations in various
venues. She has completed many commissions during her time in
Hendersonville. Her religious works are on display in area churches.
Brown's work is in various collections nationwide.
Interiors Marketplace in Asheville, NC, Wildwood Gallery in Boone,
NC, and Nephi's Books in Columbia, SC, currently represent her.
She has also had her work shown at Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville,
Sweet Memories Gallery in Hendersonville, Rosdon Mall of Hendersonville
and The Arts and Craft Community of Gatlinburg, TN.
Brown does commissions in both oils and watercolors. She works
as a full time artist in her studio in Laurel Park.
