Tiemaker's Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Emily Jenkins

Tiemaker's Gallery in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibition, Big Bold Abstracts, featuring works by Emily K. Jenkins from Apr. 9 - 30, 2004.

Jenkins is a young contemporary artist whose strong abstract paintings celebrate color and stroke. "My work uses pure color and the act of painting to create harmony and dissonance in a visual language. The combination of color sets up a movement among the contrasting colors. In my work, the expressive quality of the paint creates its own rhythms, its own structure," states the artist. Jenkins' work is rooted in the abstract works of abstract expressionism, color field painting and west coast abstractionism.

Jenkins first began painting with oils at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Shortly after graduating in 1995 with a double major in Studio Art and English, she then moved to Charleston. She has been painting since 1992, and has been painting full-time since 2000. Jenkins is also co-owner of Tiemaker's Gallery, which opened in 2000. She has exhibited her work throughout the area since 1997, and was chosen for the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition in 2000 and 2001.

Tiemaker's Gallery will be open Wed-Fri 12-4pm during the exhibit or by appointment.
