Transylvania Arts Council Presents 2004 Artists' Studio Tour - Treasures in the Land of the Waterfalls: Showcase of Artists and Studios - May 1, 2004 in Brevard, NC
The Transylvania County Arts Council in Brevard, NC, will present its second annual Artists' Studio Tour on May 1, 2004, from 11am-4pm. This self-guided tour will feature the studios of several local artists, potters, painters, metal sculptors, wood workers, weavers and more. A one-stop demonstration-site will be located at the Community Arts Center, 321 S. Caldwell Street, Brevard, NC, featuring jewelry making, chair caning, sculpting and painting.
Tickets for the tour are $15 per person and may be purchased at the Community Arts Center, or by calling the TC Arts Council at 828/884-2787.
Transylvania County continues to grow as a cultural destination for the arts. The Artists' Studio Tour spotlights the community and showcases our rich resources by presenting a rare opportunity to step into the artistís studio, meet local artisans, and experience the creative process. Many of these studios are private and are only open to the public for this one-day tour.
Visitors will travel to studios in and around Brevard, Pisgah Forest and Cedar Mountain. They will journey through the beautiful mountain countryside, and have the unique opportunity to see artists at work in a variety of media. Some of the featured artists are celebrated internationally for their artistry; others are truly the area's "best kept secrets."
Artistic media represented will include: metal and wood sculpture, handcrafted furniture, unique pottery and clay creations, serigraphs, etchings, paintings and pastels, printmaking, American folk art, spinning and weaving, blacksmithing, textiles and fiber art, and fused glass.
At the Community Arts Center, tour-goers will observe artists demonstrating their crafts, including: jewelry making, bead design, watercolor and papier-mâché creations, clay sculpture, wood working, chair caning, and painting.
Visitors to the Arts Center will also enjoy two exhibits on display in the Center's gallery: a show featuring the initial design plans for the Brevard Sculpture Project and an exhibit featuring works by students in the local school systems.
