Catherine J. Smith Gallery at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, Presents Art Expo 2005

Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, presents Art Expo 2005: Annual Juried Student Exhibition, at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery.  The exhibition has been rescheduled due to weather and will be on view from Apr. 5 - 13, 2005. The show will feature artworks in all media by Appalachian students.

In order to be considered for the exhibition at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery, over 100 students have participated in the jurying process that took place on Mar. 18, 2005 in Wey Hall. The public was invited to preview all the works in this multi-media event. During this event, faculty and students voted on awards presented for best work by a Senior, Junior, Sophomore and Freshman, and honorable mention winners. This year's juror selects "Best in Show."

The juror for Art Expo 2005 is Hillary Brett, Gallery Director for the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, from Hendersonville, NC. She has been involved in programming, curating, design, and grant writing at the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design since October of 2002. She moved to North Carolina after working in the grants division at the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. Brett received a Masters in Arts Administration from Florida State University and completed an internship in the Education Department at the Tate in London, Britain.

In keeping with this event being student-centered, the Exhibitions Practicum class worked with the Advanced Typography class to select a student artist to design publicity materials for Art Expo 2005. Graphic design student Brooke Fussell created the designs that were chosen for the exhibition's logo, postcard, poster and other publications.

Artists included in the exhibition are: David Abel, Beth Abernathy, Kaitlyn Allen, Kim Anderson, Chloe Ayers, Tegan Brace, Annie Brandeger, Scott Brown, Leigh Ann Cairns, Ainhoa Canup, Holly Compton, Audrey Cregan, Matt Crinkley, Mary Catherine Floyd, Kristin Foley, Billy Fowler, Andy Freeman, Brooke Fussell, Chase Gordon, Morgan Green, Ellen Gwin, Travis Harkness, Jessie Hewins, Sarah Higgins, Michael Hodges, Jonathan Hooker, Annie Huitt, Cara Jackson, Rikki Jew, Christine Kennedy, Leslie Lancaster, Matt Lawson, Taylor Leaf, Melissa Markowitz, Ashley McDaniel, Amy McDonald, Casey Miller, Heather Moretz, Kara Needham, Matt Ninemire, Virginia Nuckolls, Liz Oliver, Whitney Oliver, Justin Parrish, Shell Pierce, Frances Poe, Jaime Porco, Jeff Portaro, Ryan Prestridge, Emily Proshuto, Emily Purser, Trevor Ramp, Chris Reynolds, Mike Richardson, Eddie Schneider, Allison Schumacher, Jadi Seiz, Dayna Seman, Emilie Skytta, Charlie Slack, Christie Slater, Aaron Smith, Eric Smith, Erin Souther, Joe St. Clair, Bryan Vieira, Susanna Waller, Callie William, Kristen Williams
