HoFP in Columbia, SC, Offers Works by Robert Patierno & Jemes Davis
HoFP Gallery is hosting Against the Grain, featuring the paintings and woodblocks of Robert Patierno, and introducing local woodcarver, Jemes Davis. The show continues through Apr. 12, 2005.
Tranquil woodland scenes are the dominant theme of Patierno's oils, but as seen in his previous show at HoFP, he likes to slip in quirky and varied subjects and the woodblocks are often his vehicle. In this vein, The Saga of Sally is a series not to be missed. Jemes Davis, local arborist, displays his love and understanding of wood with his delightful masks and carvings.
Patierno is a founder and retired faculty member of the Pennsylvania School of Art & Design. His work is shown extensively in Pennsylvania, New York and the Northeast, in Arizona, in North Carolina, and now again in South Carolina. His work is in the permanent collections of the Southern Alleghenies Museum, the Royal Museum of Antwerp, Belgium, Erie Art Museum, Lancaster Museum (PA), Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Harrisburg, PA, and Syracuse University Collections.
