Appalachian State University's Turchin Center for the Visual Arts in downtown Boone, NC, is presenting new exhibits this April.
The 2nd Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition, organized by ASU Outdoor Programs will be on view through Apr. 30, 2005. The Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) is an opportunity to showcase the unique character of the Southern Appalachian Region through photography, with entries in the categories of culture, environment, adventure, landscape, flora/fauna, and new to this year's competition, The Blue Ridge Parkway. Prizes will be awarded in each category and winning and Special Mention photographs will be displayed at the Turchin Center.
Nathan Sanders: New Work, will be on view from Apr. 1 - 30, 2005, in the Catwalk
Community Gallery. Sanders is a senior in the Bachelor of Fine
Arts Program of the Department of Art at Appalachian State University,
and will exhibit a collection of new work.
Doris Dillon: Outer Space and Inner Man, will be on view
from Apr. 1 - 30, 2005. The phrase "Outer Space and Inner
Man" was coined by internationally known artist Doris Dillon
at her first exhibit on this subject in Denver, CO, following
the first Moon Walk in 1969 and was the result of a commission
by Dr. Jacque Yost, then Director of Research for Marathon Oil.
The exhibit is sponsored by the American Biographical Institute,
with headquarters in Raleigh, NC.
Dillon's work captures a dimension that pulls the viewer into
the picture and embeds it forever in one's mind. There is an ethereal
atmosphere to this exhibit which emerges from Dillon's imagination.
It is an array of haunting and majestic images symbolizing the
forces of the cosmos, involving the viewer with the impact.
