Frame Shop and Gallery's Art Café in Rock Hill, SC, Offers Works by Lynn Kimble
The Frame Shop and Gallery's
Art Café in Rock Hill, SC, will present an eclectic exhibit
of oil pastels of Greek Myths and Hawaiian Quilters to watercolor
Teddy Bears entitled Color My World, by Tega Cay, SC, artist
Lynn Kimble. The exhibit will run from Apr. 1 - 30, 2006.
This colorful body of work was mostly inspired by the places the
artist has lived; Hawaii with its tropical flare, Minnesota with
its urban city constraints and South Carolina with its quiet,
country feel. New Orleans is what comes to mind when people view
Kimble's paintings. Full of vibrant colors and interesting caricatures.
A celebration of old traditions, twists on the Masters, and playful
gestures are just a few phrases that describe the body of work.
Kimble calls it her visual critique on life.
Being a native of St. Paul, MN, Kimble loved sleigh rides and
building snowmen. But after many frigid Minnesota winters, she
longed for the warmth of the sun and at the tender age of eighteen,
she moved to Hawaii. Her new-found home was a palette of inspiration.
With Hawaii being a melting pot of cultures, she learned a variety
of new traditions like Hawaiian Quilting and brought those experiences
to the canvas.
After twelve years of fantasy water falls, flowing lava and days
spent at the beach, Kimble decided to move back to Minnesota to
attend the University of Minnesota where she received a Bachelor
of Fine Arts and a Masters in Art Education. While in college
she had many art exhibits and was included in juried shows at
local galleries. But needing to thaw-out from the snow once again,
she traveled back to Hawaii and was an art teacher at Kapolei
High School for three years.
Kimble continued to take studio art classes at the University
of Hawaii so that she could get different perspectives on painting
from professors of other cultures. She even attended a week-long
painting course set smack-dab in a crater left by the volcano
on the big island of Hawaii.
Recently Kimble moved here to South Carolina and she is an art
teacher for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She says that she has
found a quiet calmness in living on Lake Wiley and would like
to share her works with the community and her students.
