Furman University in Greenville, SC, Offers Works by Diane Hoffman
Furman University in Greenville, SC, will present the exhibition, Burrow, Canyon, Bunker, Crawlspace: Clean, Well-lit Nightmares, featuring works by Rhode Island School of Design professor Diane Hoffman, in the Thompson Art Gallery, on view through Apr. 21, 2006.
The exhibition presents a set of drawings that juxtapose desire, repulsion, safety and anxiety to imagine "a beleaguered psychological landscape of impossible conflict." Hoffman applies dry pigments and watercolors by freehand, stenciling, and screen-printing to create a matte, velvety texture.
Hoffman is assistant professor of foundation studies at Rhode Island School of Design. She earned a degree in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design and a degree in drawing and painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her works have been exhibited throughout the United States and in Germany.
