Greenville Technical College in Greer, SC, Features Annual Upstate High School Exhibit
The Department of Visual
Arts at Greenville Technical College's Greer Campus in Greer,
SC, is hosting the 16th Annual Upstate High School Art Exhibition,
on view through Apr. 28, 2006. This year's exhibition has grown
significantly from 14 schools in 2005 to include 20 schools throughout
Anderson, Pickens, Oconee, Greenville, Laurens, Greenwood, Spartanburg
and Cherokee counties.
A wide range of two and three-dimensional media and imagery are
represented in this milestone exhibition of 173 works of art.
In 2005, 90 works were shown.
Through sponsorships and funding from the private sector, cash awards are given to winning high school artists. In 2005, total awards were over $3800, and there will be an increase in awards for 2006. These awards and the exhibition are funded in part by the Metropolitan Arts Council, TEKGRAF, Greer State Bank and the Greenville Tech Foundation.
"The Annual Upstate High School Art Exhibition is an excellent program, and the Metropolitan Arts Council is proud to be a sponsor of the 2006 event. With its broad range, this exhibition gives high school students throughout the upstate the opportunity to learn more about the fantastic Department of Visual Arts at Greenville Tech as well as to experience first-hand the arts community of Greenville," said Alan Ethridge, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Arts Council.
"The arts are such
a vital part of the Greenville area, and it is imperative that
arts organizations and schools attract the next generation of
visual artists to our community."
The awards ceremony will be held during the Artisphere Festival
weekend, at Falls Park in downtown Greenville, SC, on Apr. 21,
2006, from 7-9pm. This event is free and open to the public.
