Havens Framemakers and Gallery in Columbia, SC, Feature Works by Betsy Havens and Jim Calk
Renowned SC artists,
Jim Calk and Betsy Havens are returning to Columbia, SC, to display
their artworks at Havens Framemakers and Gallery. The show will
begin on Apr. 27 and continue through May 25, 2006.
Betsy Havens
Havens, former owner
of Havens Framemakers and Gallery, retired in 2002 after marrying
Calk. They then moved to Georgetown, SC, where they are currently
enjoying their life painting and living by the beach. They were
both well-known and well-appreciated artists when they lived in
Columbia and they have decided to bring their artwork back to
where they began.
Havens studied art throughout her high school career and went
on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Design from the University of
South Carolina. She has received many awards for her work, including
second place in the South Carolina State Fair, second place in
the "February Show" at the Rice Museum in Georgetown
and the Director's Circle award. Native Lowcountry scenes with
great emotion and color can characterize her artwork. Also, her
travels around the world inspire her paintings of extrinsic lands,
architecture and people.
Jim Calk
Jim Calk has also received
many awards for his artwork. In the past, he has received first
place in the Winyah Art Association Show, second place
in the Greenwood Festival of Flowers and was juried into
the Anderson Art Council Show. Calk's paintings are widely exhibited
by corporate collectors. He paints in oil, watercolor, and pastel
in an impressionistic poetic style. According to Calk, "My
paintings allow the viewer to see the essence of the subject while
still providing imaginative interpretation." His subject
matter usually includes still lifes and landscapes.
