McClellanville Art Council in McClellanville, SC, Features Second Exhibition by Area Artists
The McClellanville Art Council in McClellanville, SC, will present the exhibition, From Seewee to Santee: The Next Generation, featuring the work of more than forty artists and craftspeople who live in the McClellanville area. The show which includes local art forms such as Sweetgrass baskets, cast nets, and a full-scale model of a rice trunk along with recent paintings, photographs, prints, textiles, sculpture, furniture, and jewelry, will be on view from Apr. 8 through June 10, 2006.
Sixteen years ago, Hurricane Hugo devastated McClellanville. No one knew what the future would bring. Two years later, the Arts Council mounted an exhibit called From Seewee to Santee to celebrate the opening of a new Arts Center and the rebirth of the town. The show was proof that the artistic heritage of the area had not been swept away by the storm. Since then, dozens of new artists have moved in and those who were already here have matured and changed. Generations of children have become artists in their own right.
