Modern Eye Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Linda Luise Brown
Modern Eye Gallery in Charlotte, NC, proudly welcomes Charlotte artist, Linda Luise Brown, to the gallery in her first show entitled, Lyrical Abstractions. The show is comprised of small and medium-scale original works on canvas and will be on view from Apr. 1 - 30, 2006.
Most recently a McColl Center for Visual Arts affiliate artist-in-residence, Brown arrived in Charlotte fifteen years ago from Oklahoma and created an active, arts-filled life as painter, educator and art critic. Her abstract, gestural and color-based painting, "stems primarily from the study of three mid-twentieth century artists whose work remains viable today: Wassily Kandinsky, Roberto Matta, and Arshile Gorky" as the artist states. Brown explores the universal language of color in her work, which she believes "can conjure images, evoke memories, and provoke associations". In her show, Lyrical Abstractions, the artist remains true to herself. This body of work expresses pure emotion through its rich textures and intense colors that dance across the canvas.
Brown has an unerring eye for color harmonies and visual details, which invariably touch the heart and soul. Using only oil in her work, she paints in layers, "allowing oil glazes and transparencies to contribute to the final painterly surface, often reworking wet on wet". In the exhibit, the viewer will find a body of work that is painterly and powerful as well as intellectual and emotive. The viewer will have the opportunity to experience a private emotional and intellectual response to each canvas and to share in the visual treat of these highly animated abstract compositions.
"We are delighted to have Brown join us at Modern Eye Gallery and look forward to sharing this very special body of work with you," says Ron Crid, gallery director.
