Parkway Craft Center in Blowing Rock, NC, Opens for 55th Year
Parkway Craft Center Celebrates 55 years of Fine Craft at Moses Cone Manor at Milepost 294, Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, NC.
Parkway Craft Center showcases the work of members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Come and enjoy seasonal craft-making demonstrations, the gallery of fine crafts, beautiful mountain views, and a special discount for local residents.
The Moses Cone Manor house, completed in 1901, is a spectacular piece of period architecture popping out of the mountain landscape. The entrance is a shady road that is private and relaxing. The house is an awesome sight even from the back as you park. A short walk down the front steps brings you to the breath-taking view of Bass Lake below and the surrounding mountains accented by the always changing sky. The covered porch with its rocking chairs invites you to relax and enjoy the fresh air and views.
Several special events will be offered throughout the year at Parkway Craft Center. The 3rd Annual Egg Scramble on the Manor House Lawn will take place Apr. 15, 2006, from 10am-5pm. This event will feature an Easter egg hunt for children, a scavenger hunt orchestrated by the National Park Service, drawings for limited edition crafts, and many other surprises. June is Quilt Month. Aug. 12, 2006, is Heritage Day featuring many craft demonstrations, story telling and other activities you won't want to miss. In addition to these special events, craft demonstrations are scheduled on a regular basis throughout the year. New this year will be craft classes to enjoyed by children and adults alike. Contact us or check our web site for information.
This year visitors will discover a whole new look at Parkway Craft Center, with new displays and many new artists displaying. A whole room will be set up to focus on fiber with a greatly expanded selection of handmade fashion wearables. The jewelry area, too, will have new cases to showcase our many new artists bringing work into the shop. Silver, gold, platinum, precious and semi-precious stones as well as beaded work and hand-made glass beaded jewelry will be available. New personal care items such as goat's milk soap products and yummy lotions and rubs will be on hand.
