Spencer Art Galleries in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Lisa Willits and Catherine and Jerry Spencer
Spencer Art Galleries
in Charleston, SC, will present the following exhibits: Focus
on Abstraction, featuring works by husband and wife team Catherine
and Jerry Spencer at Gallery I, from Apr. 21-28, 2006, and Kaleidoscope,
featuring works by Lisa Willits at Gallery II, from Apr. 21-28,
2006.
Focus on Abstraction offers a series of new abstract paintings.
Both artists have completed a new series of abstract paintings
and both have strong differences in their use of colors, shapes,
lines, and contents. These differences make for an exciting show.
"Whether a piece of work is abstract or realistic, the same
fundamental principles apply" says Catherine Spencer. "Working
in the abstract shakes up the creative juices and makes the artist
stronger in the basic use of fundamentals and principles. I find
it good to change gears and use a variety of techniques, styles,
materials, etc., for expressing and communicating the message
or feeling I have in mind."
"All good art has a foundation in abstraction," says
Jerry Spencer. "It is the ultimate challenge for a artist
to communicate well in the abstract."
Spencer Art Gallery II offers a special presentation, Kaleidoscope,
featuring new works by Lisa Willits, who is a successful and talented
artist relatively new to the Spencer Galleries. She is insightful
in the messages she communicates and confident in the subject
matters she chooses.
"As an artist I explore a variety of subject matters,"
says Willits. "This gives me the challenge to capture the
pure essence of that subject with paint and canvas."
