Beet, Fine Contemporary Crafts & Functional Art in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Dave Long
Beet, Fine Contemporary Crafts & Functional Art in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Changing Landscapes, Vanishing Carolina Landmarks, a photo essay by Dave Long, on view from Apr. 3 - 28, 2007.
Long offers the following statement about the images in the exhibition: "It is easy to overlook the fact that our area was once very rural, and a farming community, our gleaming towers and sprawling shopping complexes tend to hide the past. I grew up here, and passed farms, barns and little crossroad settlements, that I saw every day from my school bus window traveling from Derita to Huntersville, NC. My primary interest was not to archive, I was drawn to the textures and contrasts these places presented to me as an artist. Over a period of three years, several times I returned back to a location to reshoot and found them gone, or found them obscured by something recently built. So, in fact the photos do serve to archive our landscapes, as well as impressions and realities I wish to capture through the lens of my camera."
