NC State University in Raleigh, NC, Features Works by Jennifer Angus and Janice Wright Cheney

The Gregg Museum of Art & Design (formerly the Gallery of Art & Design) at NC State University in Raleigh, NC, is pleased to present the exhibition Exquisite Entomology, featuring works by Jennifer Angus and Janice Wright Cheney. The exhibition will run through May 13, 2007.

Exquisite Entomology explores the worlds of installation artist Jennifer Angus and textile artist Janice Wright Cheney, both of whom employ the beauty and intricate design of insects in their work. Guest curator Vita Plume brought these unique artists together while simultaneously exploring images of domesticity and the social organization of insects and humans.

Angus is direct in her approach, creating installations using deceased bugs that result in amazing patterns. Cheney employs her skill by using embroidery to capture bugs in a variety of materials. This exhibition invites the viewer to look to nature to see pattern, beauty and detail.

The curator of this exhibition, Vita Plume, a Canadian, has worked with two of her fellow Canadians - Angus and Cheney. While Angus works in Wisconsin, Cheney still lives in Canada and this will be one of her first shows in the United States. Cheney received funding from the Canada Council for the Arts and the New Brunswick Arts Board.
