The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Shirley Novak
The Sylvan Gallery in Charleston, SC, is welcoming spring with a show of new works by Shirley Novak entitled, My Secret Gardens. The show opens on Apr. 6 and continues through Apr. 30, 2007.
Named by Southwest Art as an artist "to watch," Novak has spent years exploring creativity while honoring the beauty of the flowers from her own garden. She is well aware of the artists of the past who were passionate gardeners such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro and Vincent Van Gogh. Her garden inspires great joy and plentiful ideas for paintings as theirs did for them. Allowing nature to set the garden and seedlings to sprout in new places and new ways, Novak has regular surprises.
"What I try to do with paint is recreate the joy I experience in my subjects; the flowers that I grow, and the wildflowers in mountain meadows," says Novak. As Joseph Campbell said, "The function of art is to reveal the radiance running through all things." This is what Novak attempts to do, express in paint the light and color of nature's bounty. She developed her personal approach and process to create her identity in the paintings and delights the eye as the gardens have delighted the senses.
Novak has exhibited with the Northwest Rendezvous Group and is in the collection of the Western Colorado Center for the Arts, Grand Junction, CO, and many other prestigious collections.
The Sylvan Gallery specializes in 20th and
21st century representational art and carries a large selection
of sculpture. They are pleased to now represent the work of John
Carroll Doyle as well as that of thirty or so artists of world
renown. The King street gallery is now part of a block of several
galleries. Found at 171 King Street, in downtown Charleston's
historic district and antique row, the gallery presents colorful,
approachable works of art from today's masters who travel the
world. The Sylvans participate in the Charleston Fine Art Annual
Weekend and the gallery is a member of the Charleston Fine Art
Dealers' Association (CFADA).
