25 Local Visual Artists Exhibit Works
at West Columbia, SC's Riverwalk
The 2nd Annual Riverwalk Music & Arts Festival in West Columbia, SC, will be showcasing the works of 25 South Carolinian artists. The one day event kicks off at 2pm on Apr. 19, 2008, and will run until 9pm that evening. The festival takes place at West Columbia's scenic Riverwalk at the corner of Gervais Street and Alexander Road.
Last year, the City of West Columbia decided to take the initiative in creating its own festival and thus the Riverwalk Music & Arts Festival was born. The result of which has become a dynamic forum for visual artists. The city has created a unique experience in pairing the visual finesse of talented South Carolinian artists with the smooth sounds of local musicians such as Danielle Howell. Lounge at the amphitheater and relish in the sights and sounds of Columbia's finest. Bring a picnic lunch or dine at New Orleans Riverfront Restaurant. Either way this event is sure to please as admission and parking are free!
Returning artists from last year's festival include; Thomas Washington whose chalk works sold out last year; Mildred McKinley of West Columbia, who specializes in pottery; and Roxanne Mockabee will also have works in the show. Sue Martin is a talented artist whose works can be seen at the John Miranda Gallery located in the Dutch Square Mall. Wes North is fast catching on with his dynamic state Palmetto Tree series. His works can also be viewed at the Miranda Gallery.
A number of talented artists whose works are
currently on display at The Art Shack are participating in this
year's festival. Michael La Rosa's unique life-like polymer sculptures
can be found throughout their establishment as well as the work
of Jeff Weese. His use of oil has captured the essence of the
river and is a must see for all river enthusiasts. The talented
Paula Bowers, also of The Art Shack, will be displaying at the
Riverwalk Music & Art Festival. She is also known for her
community enriching art classes. The art of Jonathan Moore, an
exceptional portrait artist who works in graphite, will also be
on a display. JJ Casey, who grew up in Orangeburg, SC, has wonderfully
mastered watercolors. She aptly demonstrates this with her beautiful
representations of all things Lake Murray.
Also showing is Jean Ehler of St. Matthews, SC, who has a degree
in art from USC. Jean Bourque is an abstract artist who works
in a variety of mediums. She has been very active in the arts
as well as guilds in Columbia. Other artists displaying include
Nancy Kauffman who masterfully paints on bisque, Ruby DeLoach
of Chapin, SC, Carlos Richardson currently at Starbucks on Gervais,
and Ellin Baskin's acrylic landscapes which can be seen at Palmetto
Interiors in the vista and Laurette Kirkland, who has been working
with clay since 2003.
