April Issue 2008
Greenville Technical College in Greer,
SC, Offers Annual High School Exhibit
On view through Apr. 25, 2008, the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Greenville Technical College's Greer (SC) Campus is hosting the 18th Annual Upstate High School Art Exhibition. Each year this exhibition represents programs throughout Anderson, Pickens, Oconee, Greenville, Laurens, Greenwood, Spartanburg and Cherokee counties.
Upstate high school students are provided a unique opportunity to participate in the Greenville arts community and to learn more about the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Greenville Tech. The scope of this event is truly impressive. This year Greenville Tech is displaying 129 works of art that include an extensive range of two and three-dimensional mediums.
Through sponsorships and donations from the
private sector, the Department of Visual and Performing Arts has
successfully met their goal for this year's event. Approximately
$4,000 in award money is earmarked for winning high school artists
in all categories and is split between the student and the program
they represent, providing much needed funding for high school
art departments.
These awards and the exhibition are funded in part by the Metropolitan
Arts Council, Fluor Corporation, Greer State Bank, and the Greenville
Tech Foundation. We are proud to acknowledge our sponsors' part
in this event that serves so many of our area students and recognizes
the significance of their accomplishments. Local support of arts
organizations and schools is imperative if art is to remain a
vital part of the Greenville community.
