Mary Martin, A Gallery of Fine Art
in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Randall LaGro
Mary Martin, A Gallery of Fine Art, on historic Broad Street in downtown Charleston, SC, is hosting a one-man exhibition through May 31, 2008 for artist Randall LaGro.
LaGro works in a variety of mediums, including oil on panel and monotype printmaking. In this exhibit, the artist will be unveiling a new collection of oil on panel works as well as exhibiting a new collection of his exquisite monotypes. Both LaGro's oil paintings and his monotypes are captivating, drawing the viewer into his world, where anything is possible.
Simple yet rich in substance, subtle yet commanding, LaGro's works seem to stand in perfect balance. They speak to the viewer with a quiet, but confident voice. Working from abstraction, his pieces move up and down a spectrum, to and away from realism allowing figures and objects to emerge and then to disappear again as the eye is drawn throughout the work. LaGro has no agenda, no plan when he starts painting. Instead, using his brush as an extension of himself, he allows the work to flow freely from his subconscious, fearlessly trusting his hand.
