Wood Comes to Life at Gallery WDO in May
Sculpture? Furniture? Is there a distinction between the two? Not for North Carolina sculptor Brent Skidmore who will be showing his latest works of studio furniture May 1 - 27 at gallery WDO, located in the South End district of Charlotte, NC. Skidmore's faultlessly constructed sculptures of wood, glass, leather, sterling silver, and brass command attention and assuredly will generate a smile from their audience. "We all need humor - if my work can allow someone to take a breath and laugh, I've accomplished something." Skid more says of his whimsical designs.
Upon closer inspection, Skidmore's sculptures invite the viewer to take part in the story behind their conception. "A desire for better understanding of energies, emotions, and events in and around my life compels me to make sculpture and furniture. The Three E's of Inspiration may range from a particular sexual/personal energy, an emotion or response, as well as a particular happening (past, present, predicted or imagined)". Skidmore hopes to elicit the same energy and emotion that inspired each piece in those who view or use his work.
