Myrtle Beach Art Museum Features an Exhibit on Harley Davidson Motorcycles
From May 2 through June 4, six decades of Harley Davidson Classic Motorcycles and other Harley memorabilia will be presented at the Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, SC, in collaboration with the American Classic Motorcycle Company Museum of Harley Davidson in Asheboro, NC.
One of the eight classic motorcycles on display that date from 1936 to 1972 will be the "1936 Knucklehead," which was the first overhead design that Harley Davidson built. It is the basic design of all Harley engines today and it put Harley ahead of their main competitor. This motorcycle was not heavily advertised because Harley was unsure that the engine design would be a success; as such, a limited number were created and only three are known to still be in their original condition today.
Also on display will be Harley Davidson memorabilia including authentic Harley toys dating from 1930 to 1959, a collection of The Enthusiast magazine published by Harley Davidson from 1940 to 1959 and a collection of Harley Davidson posters and displays dating from 1935 to 1950.
