Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, Features a Two Person Exhibit and a Special Showing of Jewelry

Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, announces a two-person exhibit for painters Robert Jackson and Margie Stewart and a special jewelry exhibit by nationally recognized Rhode Island artist Carolyn Morris Bach. Both exhibits will continue through May 19.

Realist still life paintings by artist Robert Jackson and new expressionist paintings on linen by Margie Stewart will be featured in the South Gallery.

Robert Jackson utilizes everyday objects in his paintings to create stunningly rendered still life paintings. Using color, precise placement, and unusual shapes, Jackson's still life compositions encourage the viewer to carefully study each aspect of all his paintings. Delicate, meticulous brushwork results in realism attainable only by a handful of contemporary painters.

Jackson is a native of Kinston, NC and currently a Delaware resident. He has exhibited in numerous one-person and group exhibits throughout the US. These include the American Artists Professional League exhibits in 1998 & 1996; Realism'98, at the Parkersburg, WV Art Center; USArtists'98, Philadelphia, PA; and the 19th Annual Salmagundi Club Exhibit, New York, NY.

Margie Stewart's paintings explore frequently discernible, recognizable subjects in rich, deep palettes. With strong contrast and energetic application of paint, Stewart often captures the essential elements of figurative subject through abstract techniques.

A Durham, NC, resident Stewart received her MFA from the University of NC-Greensboro in 1997. Her work has been exhibited widely. Previous exhibits include: New Art in the Triangle, at the Duke University Museum of Art, 1997; the 42nd and 37th Durham, NC Art Guild Annual Juried Exhibits in 1996 & 1991; the Art on Paper Exhibition and the Weatherspoon Art Gallery, University of NC-Greensboro, 1998; and the 10th, 9th & 8th Annual Women's Center Exhibits in Chapel Hill, NC in 1994, 1993 & 1992, respectively.

This exhibition marks the first South Gallery feature exhibit for both Jackson and Stewart. Each artist has been a previous participant in several group exhibits at Somerhill Gallery.

Working with gold, silver, gemstones and carved bone, Carolyn Morris Bach is known for her talisman forms, images of women, the moon, rabbits and the mythological elements behind each of these elements. For this, her third major exhibit in NC, Bach will exhibit over 80 new works.

Bach received her degrees form the Rhode Island School of Design. She and her works have been featured in numerous juried and one-person exhibits throughout the US. Her works have been featured in publications from Vogue magazine to the New York Times.
