Regional Odyssey Exhibit by Steven Dunn
The Stokes County Arts Council in Danbury, NC, will act as host to an exhibit by Steven W. Dunn through May 30. Dunn's work is representative of the theme, A Regional Odyssey. This body of work features Dunn's acrylic, watercolor and pen and ink paintings depicting mostly landscapes and architectural themes. The Blue Ridge Mountains and its foothills have inspired him as well as Old Salem.
Steven Dunn grew up on a plant nursery near Winston-Salem, NC, and began drawing and painting at an early age. While in grammar school he was instructed in watercolor and oil painting under the late Sister St. Dennis at St. Leo's Convent in Winston-Salem. During his teen years he painted under Bill Edwards at Hanes Community Center. After high school he attended East Carolina University and studied paintings, sculpture and ceramics under accomplished artists Fran and Tran Gordley and Elizabeth Farnham.
As a painter, Dunn finds inspiration from the gardens, plants, and flowers that have embraced his complete life. He is one of those rare artists who is able to paint the garden or flower of your memory or dreams. He is not timid about sharing his love of color or design with the viewer.
Dunn paints from the heart, with a passion and he chooses his colors instinctively, however, with much feeling and calculation. He works so well with the client to suit and please that he is well sought after for his mural work (residential and commercial) as well as his functional art.
Dunn is an exhibiting member of the Associated Artist of Winston-Salem and the Watercolor Society of NC. Hampton House Gallery in Winston-Salem and King represents his work, along with New Elements Gallery in Wilmington, NC and Ocmulgee Arts in Macon, GA.
