May Issue 2000
YMI Cultural Center in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Jocelyn King-Delay
The YMI Cultural Center in Asheville, NC, is
pleased to present Clay and Paint: Changes and Obsessions,
an African American visual arts exhibition by Jocelyn King-Delay.
The exhibit by the mainly self-taught artist will be on display
from May 6 through June 30, 2000.
King-Delay has a bachelor's of science degree in Criminology from
Ohio State University and a Master's of Education and Community
Agency Counseling degree from NC State University. She has spent
much of her life helping youth rehabilitate their lives. She has
worked as a correctional case analyst for a youth correctional
center in Raleigh, NC, and as a parole officer for Wake County
Correctional Centers.
When King-Delay realized how important creative expression was
to her and her lifestyle, she made a career change and opened
the Peace of Mind Counseling Center. This has afforded her the
opportunity to create art for public and private exhibitions.
King-Delay's fascinating 3-dimensional pieces of polymer clay and paint are influenced by a life-long dream to capture beauty in people and in things.
YMICC programs are partially funded by a grant from the NC Arts Council, a state agency; The Asheville Area Arts Council, The National Endowment for the Arts, Buncombe County, and supported in general by the City of Asheville Department of Parks and Recreation.
