Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, Artist-of-the-Month is Robert Mahosky

Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, will host Robert Mahosky as the artist-of-the-month for May.

Many of Mahosky's works are based on people, places, and events he has encountered while working as a TV news videographer. A number of his paintings are based on his experiences videotaping the children of Rawanda after the massacre for a special news series. After the filming he went through the stacks of tapes, freezing one frame to capture that one incident of their life for others to wonder what was going through their mind. Then working in oils on thick paper, he meticulously drew each painting, then layered the drawing with color, striving for detail in light and reflection.

Mahosky says this is how he sees the world - "Layers of color, moments of light, every intricate line, is laid down before the colors are added. The invisible people, the forgotten people, the ordinary people crying to be noticed have been captured for you."
