Nina Liu and Friends in Charleston, SC, Presents Exhibition of Works by Jocelyn Chateauvert & David Ross Puls
David Ross Puls & Jocelyn Chateauvert
Charleston artists Jocelyn Chateauvert and David Ross Puls will exhibit new works created collaboratively and individually during the acclaimed Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. Nina Liu and Friends sponsors this show from May 4 through June 16, 2001.
Furniture artist, David Ross Puls makes highly contemporary work from engineered and composite wood products not often seen in fine furniture. Both functional and whimsical, his pieces reflect the development of his own techniques. Cutting cross grain to expose the layering of plywood is signature work as are his animated furniture legs.
Jocelyn Chateauvert internationally recognized for her jewelry with Abaca paper and Sterling silver has expanded her repertoire with handmade paper to include lighting, vessels and wall pieces. From intimate adornment to large-scale work the pieces are both tactile and voluminous. Aerial titles the 2001 jewelry collection, a response to her new home in Charleston.
Combining their talents has led to surprising new work. Canopy suspends diaphanous paper in a tension held armature of plywood. The work defines physical space but suggests a more abstract and conceptual one. Also look for their "can't help it baby appointments" credited to the birth of their son, Elvin.
