New Exhibitions at Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC

Theatre Art Galleries in High Point, NC, is hosting a solo exhibit by High Point painter, Ann Hughes Johnson, entitled Forever Bouquets, in Gallery B. Greensboro, NC, sculptor, Stan Gilliam and Winston-Salem, NC, artist, Helen Marie Smith are exhibiting together in Gallery C in Intuitive Forms. And, the High Point Fine Art Guild will be presenting their annual Summer Juried Show is in Main Gallery. The exhibits will be showing from May 3 through Aug. 12, 2001.

Ann Hughes Johnson

Ann Hughes Johnson is a former public school art teacher who since retiring several years ago, has concentrated on honing her skills as a painter. Particularly adept at watercolor, her exquisite florals and landscapes blossom with vitality and grace. For the past five years, she has designed the local Habitat for Humanity Christmas cards.

Johnson received a BA in art education from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She has won awards from the NC Watercolor Society, Davidson County Fine Arts Guild, and High Point Fine Art Guild. This is her first solo exhibition.

Stan Gilliam

Stan Gilliam's wooden assemblages pulsate with life. He works with the grain of various woods, adds subtle stained colors, and pieces them together not unlike a playful puzzle. With an MFA from UNC-G and an interest in music composition, Gilliam's wood sculptures express rhythm and energy.

Helen Marie Smith

Helen Marie Smith's abstract paintings also deal with rhythmic form. Her current studies in music composition at Wake Forest University are also expressed in her paintings. Dream images and the sub-conscious are instrumental to her work. An active member of the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem. Smith is also a member of the High Point Fine Art Guild, Durham Art Guild, Greensboro Artists' League, SECCA, Davidson County Museum of Art, and Waterworks Visual Arts Center. She has recently opened her own gallery on Trade Street in Winston-Salem, called Quantum Art.

The High Point Fine Art Guild is hosting their annual Summer Juried Show, featuring selected works by members in TAG's Main Gallery.
