Tiemaker's Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works of Matt Overend and Emily Jenkins
Tiemaker's Gallery in Charleston, SC, presents Paint for Paint's Sake on view through June 20 which features oil paintings by Matt Overend and Emily Jenkins. Paint for Paint's Sake explores pure paint as the all-encompassing medium for creative expression. Overend's works include a series of landscapes, facades, still lifes, and non-objective works. All of his work uses paint as an abstract medium for painterly expression, whatever the subject. Overend works the painted surface with layers of glazing and scumbling to create tension and interest between flat spaces and deep spaces. Jenkins' abstract paintings focus on color, stroke, and paint as a lively visual language. The result is a series of multi-layered, colorful abstract oils with a complexity and variety of tones and movement provided by the brush strokes.
Overend has been painting professionally for 20 years, and his experience complements the freshness of Jenkins' work. Jenkins has been painting for 7 years. The two painters explore through their works - paint for paint's sake.
