Ann Long Fine Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Presents American Realism

A truly unique and unprecedented display of American realist art work will be on exhibit at Ann Long Fine Art Gallery from May 23 through June 29, 2002.

The six American artists on exhibit span two generations and share a common tie to the classical, realist technique, as well as a profound devotion to the purity and influence of European life - most especially Florence, Italy. All the artists have studied, trained, and lived in Florence during their careers - finding great inspiration in the simplicity of the lifestyle and abounding resources in classically trained mentors and works of the old masters.

The exhibitors include Ben Long and Charles Cecil, both who lived and painted in Florence in the 1970s. Each has more than 30 years experience in Europe painting and each has their own school of Realism painting and drawing. In contrast, Jill Hooper, Kamille Corry, Frank Strazzulla, and Paul Brown have lived and studied in Florence more recently and some studied with Cecil in the 1990s.

"This is an exceptional show of American realism - one that I am pleased to share with Charleston. As realism becomes more and more appreciated in the American art scene, I have discovered that people see that the work truly reflects the art, not just the artist's view of the art, thus making it more sincere and pure," comments gallery owner, Ann Long.

Varied works from each artist will be on display. Subjects range from American to European locales and include still-life, figurative work, and landscapes. All works are available for sale.
