2nd Annual Ashes to Art Auction in Charlotte, NC, Features Contemporary Art and Tribute to Hugh L. McColl, Jr.
McColl Center for Visual Art, formerly Tryon Center for Visual Art in uptown Charlotte, NC, will conduct its second annual Ashes to Art auction Fri. evening, May 10, 2002, in conjunction with a gala renaming celebration honoring founder Hugh L. McColl, Jr.
According to Suzanne Fetscher, McColl Center president, "Our facility and program wouldn't exist without Hugh McColl's vision and commitment. He created the Center to provide significant support to artists and to give them a place to explore new ideas and techniques, and to exchange ideas with other artists and the public. We are excited to be able to provide the public with the opportunity to see and purchase the works of many of these fine artists through our Ashes to Art auction."
The silent and live auctions feature more than 90 works of contemporary art created by local, national and international artists. Mediums for two and three-dimensional work include metal, silkscreen print, ceramics, mixed media, sculpture, watercolor, photography, glass, oil and acrylic. The public is invited to view and bid on auction art displayed daily beginning Mon., May 6 through Fri., May 10, from 11am-4pm in the Center's historic facility at the corner of North Tryon and 11th Streets. Viewing is free of charge. A $50 bidding fee is required for all sealed bids. All auction proceeds will benefit McColl Center for Visual Art.
Festivities will begin at 6:30pm, Fri., May 10, for the renaming celebration. Cost for attending the gala and auction is $150 per person.
