Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, Features Works by Paul Koenen
Asheville Gallery of Art in Asheville, NC, hosts watercolor artist Paul Koenen as Artist of the Month for May.
Koenen combines his background of growing up in the hill country of Kentucky with having lived the past 15 years in the Western North mountains for his source of knowledge and love of landscapes, rural settings, and use of nature for design elements. Living on the coast of North Carolina for two years while serving in the Marine Corps added an interest in marine scenes.
In addition to his painting, Koenen has worked as an advertising artist, art director, director of marketing communications, and watercolor instructor. For 16 years he was commissioned to paint a series of annual watercolors depicting scenes throughout the United States as part of an advertising campaign. Since 1987 he has lived in Saluda, NC, where he maintains a studio and pursues watercolor painting full-time, teaching an occasional workshop.
