Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC, Opens
Visitors to the new Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum (formerly St. John's Museum of Art) in Wilmington, NC, in its new location will be in awe of its impressive collections and its 42,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility designed by renowned architect Charles Gwathmey.
Unlike other art museums, the Cameron Art Museum (CAM) is the only institution in the United States dedicated solely to collecting, preserving, archiving and displaying the art of North Carolina. It is the only accredited art museum within 150 miles of Wilmington. The new facility features 10 galleries of the permanent collection wing, five inaugural exhibitions, an expanded gift shop, a state-of-the-art changing exhibition wing, and "The Forks" café restaurant.
"It is with great pleasure and anticipation that we announce the Grand Opening of the new Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum," states Judith Grizzel, president/CEO of the Cape Fear Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau. "The museum is a cornerstone for North Carolina art and is among our region's greatest tourism assets. We welcome everyone to experience our new art museum and to enjoy the many cultural treasures of North Carolina's Cape Fear Coast."
Want to go? The Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum's new location is at the intersection of Independence Blvd. and South 17th Street in Wilmington, NC. Enter from S. 17th Street. Gallery hours are Tues.-Thur., 10am-5pm; Fri., 10am-8pm; Sat., 10am-5pm; and Sun., 10:30am-4pm. The café is open for lunch Tues.-Sat. from 11:30am-2:30pm; Fri. night from 5-9pm; and Sun. brunch from 10:30am-3pm. Admission fees are $5/adults; $8/family; $2/ages 5-18; children under age 5 are free. The first Sun. of each month is free admission and museum members are always free.
