Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Page Laughlin
Center of the Earth Gallery, located in the
historic NODA area of Charlotte, NC, is proud to present Page
Laughlin: New Paintings from the Interiors Series, which will
be on view from May 3 through June 29, 2002.
Page Laughlin creates densely layered images reminiscent of Architectural
Digest and House Beautiful, which make for an intriguing
investigation of painterly space. Currently a professor at Wake
Forest University, Laughlin is clearly one of North Carolina's
new emerging talents. Laughlin earned an MFA from the Rhode Island
School of Design and a BA at the University of Virginia. Her work
was featured in the Interiors exhibition at North Carolina
Museum of Art.
Huston Paschal, Curator at North Carolina Museum of Art writes that, "Like the seventeenth-century Dutch interiors, Page Laughlin's paintings owe their genesis to prosperous times. These lavishly painted canvases of plush living rooms are inspired by mass-media images promulgating the latest trend in tasteful décor. Laughlin's heavily worked surfaces - brushed, scaped, rollered, and squeegeed - completely transform these spaces."
Also during May/June the Center of the Earth Gallery will feature the sculpture of Paul Sires as part of the 2002 American Institute of Architects convention in Charlotte.
