New Artists and Events at The Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC
The Wells Gallery, in Charleston, SC, is excited to introduce the paintings of new artists Claire K. Farrell and Sue Stewart. Both artists have a strong history of painting around the South, but just recently have begun showing their work in the Wells Gallery.
Claire K. Farrell, a graduate from Duke University and native South Carolinian, now resides in the midlands of South Carolina. She focuses on the pristine coastal wetlands so dearly loved on the South Carolina coast. Her subject is captured in fleeting light as the sun quickly arrives or departs. The result is highly contrasting landscapes with moving light that evoke a calming mood for the viewer.
Sue Stewart is a plein-air painter from Atlanta who is constantly in motion. She exposes us to our own daily life with brief glances of the mundane, magnified with color, depth, and honesty. Her small works speak volumes in subjects from Belgium, North Georgia and Folly Beach to Eastern Tennessee. Her constant travels are shown to us one piece at a time and fuel her creativity.
During the artwalk in Charleston on May 3, the Wells Gallery will be featuring the work of Claire K. Farrell and Joseph Cave from 5-8pm.
For Spoleto, a special exhibition on view from
May 31 through June 14, will feature the premiere opening of works
by Bolivian artist Alex Zapata. This is a must-see exhibit of
an artist whose technical ability is only outdone by his creative
presentations. Figures in self-struggle are complicated when pushed
into the surreal. Floating flowers are juxtaposed as the sun and
the moon, light and dark, good and evil. Three-dimensional work
is presented as theatre amidst production. Zapata finishes each
piece by creating and building frames suited to each work of art.
