Hampstead Arts in Hampstead, NC, Features Works by Antonio de la Vega

The Chrysalis Group of Hampstead, NC, is proud to present the exhibition, The Old World and The New, featuring works by prominent artist Antonio de la Vega at Hampstead Arts from May 1 through June 26, 2003.

For many years, de la Vega was a prominent New York Hispanic artist before moving to Jacksonville, NC, in 1985, exhibiting in many galleries and museums while working as an illustrator in the advertising field.

After a long hiatus he began exhibiting again last year, putting on shows at Sunset River Gallery in Calabash, NC, in the fall of 2002 and Topsail Art Gallery last winter. The Old World and The New features de la Vega works painted primarily in oils from his world travels -- with vivid scenes and portraits from France, Spain, Portugal and Andorra.

These are combined with American scenes from Maine, Virginia, and even Emerald Isle, NC. Most of the paintings to be shown have been produced by de la Vega in the last several years. This is his first major exhibition of recent works since moving to North Carolina.

In addition to originals, Artist Proof prints of a number of the selected works will also be available for sale for the first time. After the de la Vega show closes in Hampstead, it will move to the Onslow Council of the Arts Gallery in Jacksonville, NC, for a July showing.

De la Vega originals are also currently displayed at the following locations: New River Gallery (Sneads Ferry, NC), Sunset River Marketplace (Calabash), Thurston Art Gallery (Sneads Ferry), and Topsail Art Gallery (Surf City, NC).
