Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, Features Works by M.E. "Marilyn" Bailey and Cheryl Stippich

Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC, will be featuring jewelry by M.E. (Marilyn) Bailey and stained glass by Cheryl Stippich from May 9 through June 21, 2003.

Bailey's gold and silver sculptural jewelry pieces are recognized across the country for their elegant, sensual forms, designed to enhance the human body. Her earrings, bracelets and neckpieces are handforged using raising techniques that create a look of volume, yet allow them to remain lightweight and comfortable to wear. Each piece is hammered individually from sheets of sterling silver or gold using either the spiculum or anticlastic raising techniques. Her jewelry has beautiful curves which contribute to its strength and also catch light and give it the impression of graceful movement.

Stippich's style of stained glass ranges from traditional to modern and she incorporates materials not usually found in stained glass such as geode slices, mineral specimens and antique glass jewels. Hammered brass or copper wire and decorative soldering are used to visually enhance, adding texture and three dimensionality to her work. Her inspiration for designs comes from nature as well as many art forms especially the contemporary adornment arts. Stippich considers her glass pieces as "jewelry for your windows."

Both Bailey and Stippich live in Hendersonville and are members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild in Asheville, NC.
