Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Erik Johnson and Steven LeWinter
The Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC, is proud to announce the exhibition, Iron and Zinc, featuring the work of Charleston sculptor Erik Johnson and Chattanooga, TN, printmaker Steven LeWinter, on view from May 24 through June 22, 2003.
Johnson's iron work
deals with intriguing issues of space and mass, with some sculptures
weighting thousands of pounds. LeWinter's multimedia prints create
an interesting complement to Johnson's iron sculpture with an
exploration of the impact of man on earth and the elements found
below the earth and above it in the sky.
The opening of this exhibition will feature a "pedestal plop"
iron pour, where much of Johnson's work featured in the exhibition
will be cast and poured hours before the exhibit opening. This
pour will begin at 4pm on Sat., May 24, and for highly interested
individuals there will be relief scratch blocks for only $10,
where they can create there own piece of iron art and watch it
being poured!
For the closing of the
exhibition, LeWinter will hold a workshop demonstrating his Non
- Toxic printmaking methods in which he uses a polymer coated
plate that is light sensitive and developed using only water.
This eliminates many of the toxic properties associated with traditional
printmaking such as etching. The method yields high quality results
without the use of toxic fumes from acids or other chemicals.
Participants in the workshop will be able to make printing plates
using photocopies, photographs or computer generated images. These
methods and others that will be demonstrated allow workshop participants
a number of creative possibilities. The Workshop takes place June
20-22, 2003, and is only $150 per person.
