Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Jan Pawlowski
Coleman Fine Art in Charleston, SC, will host an exhibit of plein-air oil paintings by Impressionist painter, Jan Pawlowski. The show will feature fresh works, painted by the artist just days before the exhibit opens on May 7, 2004. The opening will coincide with the French Quarter Gallery Association Art Walk. Collectors will have a chance to view the wet paintings and meet the artist. The works will be exhibited through May 29, 2004.
Pawlowski experimented with different painting techniques at a young age. It was during these early years that he took up plein-air painting. Pawlowski formally studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. Impressionism was not taught at the academy; the emphasis was on modernism; for that reason Pawlowski considers himself self-taught, stemming back to the days of his young adulthood. As Pawlowski says, "Nature was my teacher."
Pawlowski worked and exhibited for nearly a decade while traveling throughout Europe. In the late 1980's the artist was invited to exhibit his works for the first time in United States. A member of the genre of plein-air impressionist painters, Pawlowski records what he sees in the moment, capturing the immediacy of the fleeting instant. The artist's work is recognizable from his energetic brushstrokes of springtime flowers, stately architectural scenes and calm seascapes.
Today, Pawlowski, his wife and their daughter, live on Nantucket Island, MA. He continues to travel and paint extensively throughout the United States and Europe. In every location, Pawlowski shares with the many Impressionists before him the need to capture and to express light.
