Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Eva Carter
The Eva Carter Gallery in Charleston, SC, will be having a special showing of Eva Carter's new work, Winds of Change, from May 7 - June 13, 2004.
Winds of Change
is a two-fold title. First, "change" is variable but
necessary. It evokes a freshness to our lives and to our creations.
Carter's latest works are about changes in attitude, considerations
of movement or not, about the relationships of color and evaluating
the presence of texture. Though her paintings are clearly identifiable,
clearly her own, she has taken steps to surprise and challenge
herself as well as her audience.
"Wind", the second component to this show, is an elemental
force that is omnipresent while at the same time being intangible.
It has many and no faces. We are only able to see the ramifications
it has upon nature with its velocity and directions, though we
cannot see wind. Carter believes our lives are very much the same.
As an abstract painter living in the South most of her life, Carter
draws upon the relationships and metaphors from the world around
us. Her work attempts to evoke the essence of a feeling or experience
rather than attempting to recreate these things as they were.
One could say Carter transcribes emotions through her visual creations,
just as a writer would attempt to do so with words.
