Green Rice Designs in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by David Ritland and Jeff Andrews
Green Rice Designs of NoDa in Charlotte, NC, is presenting the exhibit, ECHOES, an exploration into the concept of echoes as it relates to the artwork by David Ritland and Jeff Andrews, on view through June 2, 2004.
Andrews' painterly approach to his figurative
and portraiture work brings marvelous warmth to his pieces. Deft
strokes create a delicious feast, and evince a mastery of application
and color that satisfies all. Replete with references to his life
and his friends, his work creates an immediate familiarity between
the viewer and the people he paints. In ECHOES he harmonizes
both the idea of repetition and the essence of past relationships.
Ritland's focus on process, layering and abrasion leads to work
that magnifies the impact of paint strokes in his technique. Using
floral abstraction and vivid color as the basis of his work, he
delves into the idea of rhythm, repetition and patterns within
his work for ECHOES. Painted on wood boxes - with a complex
method of paint application and removal, Ritland's work highlights
subtle effects, multiplied in a Warhol-esque effect across the
surface.
