National Endowment for the Art Deputy Visits Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC
Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards Tony Chauveaux visited the Hickory Museum of Art in Hickory, NC, on May 8, 2004, to participate in the Museum's 60th Anniversary Gala, A Jewel of an Evening, honoring NC's second oldest art museum. Deputy Secretary Chauveaux is responsible for the planning and management of grant categories and related agency activities, as well as formulating NEA's policies and programs in support of the arts.
In addition to his involvement with the Museum's birthday celebration, Deputy Secretary Chauveaux also met with area arts professionals at The Holiday Inn Select's Piedmont Park Restaurant, where he answered questions and talked briefly about the NEA's current initiatives, including those affecting North Carolina arts organizations.
Chauveaux's public service includes board membership on numerous arts organizations, including serving as Chair of the Texas Commission on the Arts, on the Mid-Atlantic Art Alliance, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, and the Institute of Texan Cultures at the University of Texas at san Antonio. In his hometown of Beaumont, TX, Chauveaux has served as Vice President of the Jefferson Theater for the Performing Arts, President of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Vice President of the Symphony of Southeast Texas, and President of Friends of the Arts at Lamar University. In 1996, he received the Southeast Texas Arts Council Award for Outstanding Achievement by an Arts Volunteer. He has also practiced corporate law for more than 15 years at the St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antono and a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
Another part of the Hickory Museum of Art's 60th Anniversary Celebration will include the, 60th Anniversary Invitational Exhibition and Auction, which started on May 8 and continues through June 12, 2004. The art auction to be held on June 12, beginning with a preview and silent auction of items at 10am, showcasing the talents of over 70 artists residing in and around North Carolina, and continuing at noon with the luncheon and live auction. Tickets for this event are $40 per individual and $60 per couple.
