Lowcountry Heritage Society Presents Event Focused on the Hat at Charleston Museum in Charleston, SC, on May 8, 2004
The Lowcountry Heritage Society presents The Hat Man Speaks, on Sat., May 8, 2004, from 7-10pm at the Charleston Museum in Charleston, SC. This evening of poetry and art was inspired by the Charleston Museum's show The Accessory En Vogue: The Hat. The event is open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $10. Everyone is encouraged to wear a favorite hat. Please join us for a fun evening at the oldest museum in the nation as we celebrate "The Hat".
Poets presenting their new poems about hats will be Carol Furtwangler, Don Geddes, Ellen Hyatt, Susan Meyers George Pope, Gloria Allen, Jeff Bollier, Sue Finch Stevens, Charles W. Waring III, and Dennis Ward Stiles.
Visual artists Karen Larson Turner, Tom Durham, Julie Waugh, Harriet McLeod, Kevin Parent, Lese Corrigan and others will display their paintings or photographs interpreting hats.
Leigh Magar, the well known hatmaker, will have hats displayed for show and sale.
The Lowcountry Heritage Society was created
in 1994 and is dedicated to the production of new works of art,
music and literature about or inspired by the South Carolina Lowcountry.
It operates in conjunction with the College of Charleston School
of the Arts and is a nonprofit. The society produces two events
each year, so far creating over 44 new musical works by 14 composers,
two modern dance works, a ballet, two literary anthologies, an
original play, and 13 art exhibits. The society's two books are
available for purchase. The organization celebrated 10 years of
the "arts in harmony" in February.
