Rebus Works in Raleigh, NC, Offers Exhibit for Mother's Day and Paintings by David Connell

Rebus Works in Raleigh, NC, will offer a Mother's Day Preview from May 4 - 8, 2004, before the opening of David Connell's exhibition, New Paintings, on view from May 9 - June 19, 2004.

This preview features works by a group of artists in the Storefront working in various media including: painting, ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, garden art, hand-made books and cards, glass, fabric bags and more. The exhibit will feature works by Graham Auman, Marina Bosetti, Shawn Ireland, Stacey Kirby, Kathy King, David Larson, Annette Marsland, Susan Myers, Betty McKim, Casey Porn, Eddie Taylor, Simone Travisano, Gina Schwenn, Carol Vargo, and Sarah Kathleen Warner.

David Connell is a Raleigh native of many talents. Many may know him as a musician, playing bass for the incomparable Connells. However, he is also a visual artist who seeks out the "overlooked" everyday views, landscapes and cityscapes. He composes in the plein air method from life, making a small
study to take to the studio and enlarge. Maybe you have seen him with his easel and oils on the roadside as you are going about your busy day.

This exhibition will be a collection of these "unconsidered vistas", captured in oils. Many of the paintings are views of Raleigh that
bring on a sense of nostalgia. With the changing face of downtown development, these views of the warehouse districts and surrounding vicinities are certain to change very soon with the demolition of Dillon
Supply and the redevelopment of Raleigh's downtown. Connell has an eye for views light and landscapes that inspire us to re-evaluate our world and look again.

Rebus Works is a 27-foot long exhibition space organized by artists for artists. It is located in the workspace of Shonna Greenwell's pH seven fine arts framing and the office of Lee Moore, an arts educator who also works in photography. The exhibition space is at 301-2 Kinsey St., built in 1910, which originally housed a neighborhood grocery store called Honeycutt Grocery. It is located directly beside the Boylan Avenue Bridge.

Rebus Works is dedicated to presenting compelling and innovative works. Changing exhibitions will focus on the works of featured artists. The Storefront will be used for showing various works, including printed media and functional and fine art. Rebus Works encourages community involvement in the visual arts by making accessible resources for and about artists, fine arts framing, arts education programs, and affordable art for purchase.
