Spencer Art Gallery in Charleston, SC, Celebrates Growth with Exciting May Program of Exhibits
The Spencer Art Gallery, located at both 55 & 57 Broad Street, in Charleston, SC, is celebrating its growth and expansion with a series of new and exciting exhibits in May. "Our new physical space gives us opportunities to expand our artist representation to now show a very impressive range of styles, media, and content. Patron comments about our new presentations are very favorable," says owner Catherine Brant-Spencer.
The first exhibit, Synergy, currently on view through May 15, 2004, will show new works by many current artists including Laurie Meyer, Leslie Pratt-Thomas, Cisco Lindsey, Ken Hanger, Rogers Oglesby, and Deborah Palmer and new ceramic sculpture by Monica Ives. Also shown are works by new gallery artists, such as Jeff Rogers, Steve Neff, Marilyn Kneisley, Kit Coker, Michael Cyra, Lisa Downey, Mark McLane, Ray Davenport, Pat Forsberg, Barbara Yon, Anne Thames, and Sandra Principe. Some of these artists have never before exhibited in Charleston.
The next exhibit beginning on May 14, 2004, features exciting photography by Dottie Dillard who specializes in photographing Ballet. The exhibit is entited, On Balance. A ballerina herself, Dillard studies lighting plans before she places her camera and by studying the choreography she can anticipate and capture the most exciting and memorable moments of the performances. Many of her photograhs include world famous dancers. The show will run through June 15, 2004.
Another exhibit beginning on May 21, 2004 features
a husband and wife artist team in an exhibit entitled, Different
Strokes - He Painted and She Painted. In this exhibit, Scott
Penegar (Abstract Artist) and Kaye Penegar ( Realist Artist) will
both paint the same subjects in their different styles and media.
These artists are professionals who support their family via their
artistic endeavors. The show should be very exciting. The exhibit
will run through June 15, 2004.
"The public is welcome and encouraged to attend these events
in celebration of the growing visual artists community in Charleston",
says Catherine Brandt-Spencer.
