The Art Institute of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Carter Seibels
Charleston, SC, glass artist and
jewelry designer Carter Seibels will display her Divali Glass
Jewelry through May 31, 2005, at the Gallery of The Art Institute
of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC.
"Divali," the name for the annual Hindu Festival of
Lights, literally means "row of lighted lamps" and is
a celegbration of color, happiness and light.
"Over the 24 years of my life, my color obsession has changed from blue to green to purple to pink, and I may have even come full circle, back to blue. I am in love with color," Seibels said.
Seibels employs the traditional lampworking technique, using a torch to melt and gently "wrap" the flowing end of a glass rod onto a stainless steel rod to form the bead. All beads then are cooled in a computer-controlled kilns.
Seibels began her bead-making as a high school senior and began her business, Divali Glass Jewelry, as a sophomore at the College of Charleston. Her work is represented in galleries and boutiques across the US, and she has been featured in national as well as local publications. Most recently, her work was seen locally at the Urban Market in NoDa and at The Gift Gallery at SouthPark.
