Havens Framemakers & Gallery in Columbia, SC, Features Works by Rob Shaw and Steven Whetstone
Havens Framemakers & Gallery in Columbia, SC, presents the artwork of two Columbia natives for it's annual springtime art show featuring works by Rob Shaw and Steven Whetstone. The show will run from May 5 through June 5, 2005.
Rob Shaw's impasto approach to
painting often distinguishes him from other painters. This approach
adds nuance to the surface, allowing his paintings to be both
abstract and representational to the landscapes he paints. Shaw
focuses on local landscapes and regional scenes of interest. His
expressionistic style relies heavily on the energy and mood of
southern landscapes. The unfocused patterns and deep beauty of
nature can be found in Shaw's art.
Sharing the walls with Shaw for this show will be local contemporary
traditionalist Steven Whetstone. His subject matter gives the
the south justice by taking liberties in color with his fiery
palette where his images come to life. Whetstone graduated from
the University of South Carolina in 2002 with a BFA in Art Studio.
He derives his inspiration from Carolina's landscapes, people,
and architecture. Whetstone was nominated for Artist of the Year
and the Viewers Choice awards by the Contemporaries at the Columbia
Museum of Art in 2004.
