Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Features Works by Joan Sanders
An exhibit of new watercolors by Joan Sanders is being featured at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, from May 2 through June 18, 2005. The show, which is entitled, A World Tour, is a collection of works inspired by Sanders' many trips through Europe, China and the United States.
Sanders, originally from Long Island, NY, has lived in Calabash with her husband for over 10 years. She is well known for her vibrant watercolors of European and local scenes. "Color is what inspires me," says Sanders, "and I love painting water. Some of the paintings in this show feature water as part of the theme." The artist feels her early experience in oil painting had added a richness and depth to her work that is not often associated with watercolor. Her scenic detail allows us to experience along with her the quaintness of a German town or the exuberance of a Parisian flower market.
Sanders is a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina as well as the Wilmington Art Association, Waterway Art Association and Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild.
On June 11, from 2-5, Sunset River Marketplace will be holding its third anniversary, at which gallery visitors will be able to meet many artists who exhibit at the gallery.
Sunset River Marketplace has,
since opening in 2002, become an important artistic center for
Brunswick County. In its 10,000 square-foot space, many local
and regional artists working in a wide range of media are represented.
The facility also offers custom, on-site framing as well as art
classes and
workshops, including after-school and summer programs for children.
